Measure Up!

I was appalled to have my waist measured this week and to find that I fell into the ‘Increased Risk’ category.

Of course my first reaction was “Well I haven’t been able to exercise for 9months so its not my fault!!!” Unfortunately though the lifestyle diseases that I am now at risk of will not give me a pass out just because of this reason. Bugger!

So what are the suggested measurements for you?

Increased risk:
Men – more than 94 centimetres
Women – more than 80 centimetres

Greatly increased risk :
Men – more than 102 centimetres
Women – more than 88 centimetres

No matter what your height or build, an increased waistline is a sign that you could be at greater risk of developing serious ongoing health problems including chronic diseases such as type 2 diabetes, heart disease, stroke, high blood pressure and some cancers.

For those of you who train at Jump Start, you should have had your measurement taken this week by your trainer. If you didn’t please come down to the office at a time convenient to you and I will take it for you. If you are one of my readers who doesn’t train with us, also please feel free to come down at any time and I would be more than happy to do this for you.

There is nothing more important and precious than our health, and it is up to us as individuals to give it the respect and dedication it deserves. Excuses are easy (as you can see from mine above!!!), but at the end of the day once you have a chronic disease it is very hard to get your full health back, so make the choice today to have the best life you can, by being as healthy as you can.

Have a active and nourishing weekend,
Heidi
